Alex 9.3.2010 13:17

eh up kids, haven't been on 'ere for a while and there's loads of shit going down... saltier than thecomeup!! hahahaa!

anyways... saw something about a jam and several people mentioned getting wooden ramps and that. I need to get rid of the ramp at my house in southampton about may/june time so the jam can have it! its a 6ft mini... someone with a van would need to come and get it though as i dont think it would fit on the train...

see you at the rounded table boyos!

gc:

there will all so be a wall ride hip and midi half pipe floating from the park that would be good in a back garden .or up bishops cleeve bmx track

dan kidd 9.3.2010 13:03

Hahaha good luck with that!!
Especially something in concrete (the local residents hate the park and think its an eyesore anyway).
Concrete also costs around four times the price of equivalant metal ramps. Phone some ramp manafacturers for quotes and see.

Does anyone remember how much work and how long it took to get the ramps you have now?

A £500 DONATION from GC which the council just KEPT!! (or may have spent on getting TEAM EXTREME to perform at the park for us!! hooray)

A hundred or so meetings over years with the council that Gary and Graham went to, battling inliners, crap extreme shops, and grumpy old skaters on the way.

dan kidd:

Graham negoitiated with Mantra tattoo studio who had asked the local riders at the time (which also incl Swindon, Bristol and Ciren riders) to ride in a demo at their racecourse tattoo show.
MANTRA paid for the wood, GARY and other RIDERS designed and built the ramps for it, with the promise from the COUNCIL that the ramps would be transferred to the park, result??
The council KEPT the ramps we created for the park in a lock up for almost a year!!

The council later decided the ramps were unsafe tho and promptly removed them. Luckily GARY was AGAIN on the case with the council and after more meetings and discussions (and years) met and advised the COUNCIL'S (not our) appointed ramp builers.
Gary had drawn up proper plans not scraps of paper with scribbles on, but scaled drawings with measurements methods of construction etc.

The ramp builders put some of the ramps in the wrong place, ignored the sizes we asked for and built several things differently.
Luckily, GARY took time to visit the park during construction and managed to get the ramps altered to our sizes
(although we still had to call the builders back later as one volcano was too steep and unrideable). GARY also had to research anti-slip paint and go to the park mostly by HIMSELF to paint the ramps to make them rideable!!

After all this the council STILL stuck their oar in and altered the wide quarter pipe reducing the depth of it for.....wheelchair access!!!!

My point is, its fucking hard to get ramps built let alone ones you actually want to ride, DON'T waste your time dreaming of American skateparks 'cos it won't happen. Don't get me wrong i'd love a concrete berm and a bowl!!

Design ramps that CAN be built, the council will no doubt want to use the builders they've used before, which means METAL ramps.

Be very careful with any money you raise do you know how much ramp builders charge??? (ask Gary).

This is not meant negatively in any way -
It's just a warning to get your shit together organise yourselves and get some decent plans of what you actually want that CAN be built!!

Cheltenham council WILL provide if given the right tools and information but need constant monitoring and advice along the way.
A LOCAL riders name and face for Adam Reynolds (the guy you need to speak to at the council) to contact is useful too. Someone to voice your opinions and go to meetings etc.

It would be a shame for any resources the council have (anyone actually have any figures?) to go to waste!

What happened to the park being moved undercover????

Tait:

the application for lottery funding got denied so they scrapped the redevelopment of pitville

dan:

does this mean there's actually any money to replace the mini and connecting ramps?

gc:

recon they will rip out mini wall ride and hip and leave a big void with no flow yea get me ... its an eye sore ? they are tidying up the park getting rid of the shit and thats the skatepark? yea get me ....gary is your best bet to get your plans across get on it or enjoy the void

luke:

Dan should have a medal for this. thats whats going down right now.

Council suck cock, and never do what is right, fucki it ill just keep riding at the back of littlewoods and get in the echo. if they take any part of pitti away what what i do/we do. police will be in chelt non stop from the troulbe we will make until they fix it haha. then again i could just go build trails speel check ahnahhhh

minis going were guna have a berm, what i say goes so yeah thats it cos im the shit. bitches.

Kyle:

Honestly, I think the berm will get boring within an hour. For one it doesn't link with anything so it will be quite pointless. I'd like a box and then a hip to flatbank, just to vary from the hips we already have.

Pete:

That berm would be pretty sweet!

boqer:

i think spine mini would go down a treat

tommy:

what we need is a shithot berm then a big box same trannys as steep short one but like 3 foot longer so you can send it! ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh laaaaaaay

Luke:

What ever tommy ses normally works out fooking do ittt, copy rays park or that one in Canada

the truth:

i love the way everyone who is talking about this berm are the ones that never ride the flippin park... especially you luke peeters, when ur not in wales rimming will ur doing something else non-chelt related

leave the decision of what we get to the ones that actually ride it

salt

luke:

Sorry that i ride other places than just a boring metal skatepark.

dan:

oi 'the truth' do some ramp designs and contact Adam Reynolds at the council with yer ideas you can just ring the council and they'll put you through. The park needs input from local riders!! You can also contact the park contractors GBH on

01202 417802 or http://www.gbhramps.com/contact.html

BarnT:

LOL @ Luke! Forgot how salty (and entertaining) this place can be :)

There are some great places to ride including Pitty, but it does lack a few good bits - maybe someone needs to think about what the park is missing and work from there. Personally I think the Gloucs area is missing a sweet spine and a wooden 5ft spine mini would make my day but I imagine all the locals have ideas on what they would like to see.

Not sure what the council will do (if anything) and doubt it would be much but you can only try and see what it brings. Maybe a fundraiser might work to show the council how much support there is for BMX in the area plus they might match anything raised and more.

Anyway, what's the latest with Churchdown? I heard there was funding for a new skatepark up there (only about £40k apparently but all sorted by the locals)

tommy:

fuck the truth

luke:

Funny thing was that wasnt even me who posted about the berm just to get that right. be cool to leave ya name i like hearing what people have to say. Alot of us are older now and have gotten bored of petty things on a book. some of us actually go places and have a laugh and fun with ya mates.

thanks tommy

so, i have just met with the council. three of them turned up!

they are happy for the Flow Jam to go ahead! we can have the bbq, banners, PA, posters and a light hearted jam too.

the council were also cool with the jam being a fundraiser based on donations.

one thing they pointed out is that the mini ramp and all adjoining transitions will be decommissioned this year. they are going to replace it with something new. but whatever that is up to the local riders!

so people of the round table- tell EVERYONE about the jam. get everyone involved, have a sweet days riding and raise some cash for the park in the process!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Chris:

That's fucking sweet. My real worry about this was that the council could disapprove and make it difficult to hold more jams in the future. Now that you've got their blessing I don't see why anyone shouldn't get behind what you're doing.

Random excited local:

Hmmm...

Mini going to make way for new ramps...

How about a sweet spine mini something along the lines of Banbury??

Jay:

I've spoken tonthe council already.

We're having a loop the loop.

Cleeve Local:

I've heard we're having a set of steps and then a bin!

Personally i think you're on it - the format of the 'jam' should change you should follow the punk ethos and smash what we did and create something new. Build some random stuff and break the lines up of the park gc was right with the fbm stuff. But don't listen to us what the fuck do we know anyway? this was our influence - http://vimeo.com/2220663 - what's yours????

Jay 1.3.2010 14:28

Chris has spoken to Alex this morning who has explained the details of his jam, what he has done and why.

The situation is that Alex has planned various bits for a jam as he has to put on a live performance for his college course. Alex has, quite rightly, said that it is an open park and anyone can plan a jam if they want to - he has also said that he will follow through with his jam whether we, as a group, get involved or not.

The problem with this is that he has to hold his jam on April 24th to meet college deadlines and, with the round table not being for a couple of weeks, it is too late for cheltbmx to get involved in any meaningful way.

I therefore propose that Alex holds his jam as he has planned and that cheltbmx meet as a group at the round table to confirm all details for the 'official' cheltbmx jam to be held June/July time, depending on what cheltbmx decides, together, as a group.

Cont'd...

Jay:

cont'd...

This will allow us to plan, arrange and hold our jam, as last year, without any constraints on date, subject matter, money making, promotional material and methods or other such things that may be in effect due to someone's college course.

The cheltbmx jam will be decided and ruled by what benefits the jam, the locals and the thing as a whole as opposed to what suits one person and their college requirements - this is not meant as a sarcastic, argumentative, salty point, it's just the way it is it seems.

The last thing I think any of us want is for this situation to turn into a sour mess and this seems the best way of doing it.

So, in summary, there will be two jams - one arranged by Alex for his college and one arranged by cheltbmx, for cheltbmx.

I've discussed this with most of the chelt originals (Luke and Tommy, give me a bell) and we all figure this is the best way forward for everyone to get what they want and have a swell time.

As always when it comes to being spokesman for arrangements, I will say that it is not a case of what i say goes. If people disagree or want to tweak anything, that would be grand, I am more than open to it and it will benefit the jam without a doubt, so please just comment if you don't agree. Also if you do agree.

So..

Alex, plan your jam, best of luck, I hope it goes well for you and it gets you what you need for your course - again, this is a sincere, genuine comment.

Cheltbmx, make sure you're at the round table - it is your opportunity to have input and a say in what is your scene and the jam that will represent it.

Round table will be held at the Jolly Brewmaster at 730pm on Thursday March 18th.

Lots of love, kisses and cuddles.

Aaaaaaaaaall homo.

Jam Master Jay.

Chris scott:

Here here to that, that's the way I feel and I'm sure most of the lads feel the same.
See you boys at the round table.
Kisses xx

alex braund:

hello to all, let me clear the grapevine. there has been grave mis-understandings! due to the fact ive been vague.

from the outset i will make it clear i do not want to hold the official Chelt BMX Jam.

one of my modules is a live event, as i'd already wrote a 5000word paper on the philosophy of bmx 'flow' i thought why not tie it in with my live event module!! and call it the Flow Jam; an event that is its own entity, separate from the official chelt jam.

i have rode at pitti for the last 4 years; this Flow Jam is my way of giving back summit to you guys. however, i cannot and do not want to do it without all of you locals.

local-ness is the whole concept of the event, this is why i contacted mike from Case Bmx.

all i want to do in this Flow Jam is provide the amazing bbq and beverages...and source the creatives who i think would do the event justice i.e. clem, drummond, kris etc anyone who is a pitti local and is bad-ass at what they do!!

with the drama settled; lets put our bags of Maldon aside and join forces.

2 jams in one year, the rammifcations are only positive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

im sorry for all the misunderstandings.

love braundy

Local:

I'm not sure how contacting mike from case Bmx is local?

braundy:

read case bmx website, he details the idea behind the mag x

gc aka the warden:

sounds all right to me free nosh and all music and drinks loverly , dont see what the problem is me and my boy will be there thats the old school and the new school ,........heard on the grape vine a couple of old dogs are building a fly off to jump a car van at the park or bishop cleeves track think thats going to be a jam too , sounds like a great start to the year and a different format kinda like the fbm jams and they all ways have the flow on

Luke:

Clem goes down the park to make his day go by faster, mike is hardly there as hes at home (essex) (no offense) and Kris is not even on this planet. Sorry 2000 and late but i dont recon having two jams is the best idea since the wheel.

No one come to the first one let alone having two jams, no one likes a spread out ramp park and holding it on a day when nass, urban games and worlds are on is not good.

Only way you will get people is to put more crazy ramps in the park like Boxes, grind boxes, wedges etc. (ghetto is more fun) and do this before the jam not the day after. (show them photos on the poster of the ramps) not a photo of a strong bow can. ya hear me.

Say free bbq and beer and let them down gently once they are at the park.

Put on the poster riders include Harry FUCKING main, mark webb, kris avery and jon rodgers.
your need a bloody turn-style with these names on the poster.

PAINT THE RAMPS FIRST.

But what do i know im just a dude that stays at home drinking oasisand eating noodles.

Call me on 0776543928-NOTTTT

as they say ''build it and they will come'.

.:

as they say ''build it and they will come'.

Jay:

Good ideas (i think).

We'll talk about em at round table and get it sorted so everyone is happy...

braundy::

In terms of Flow Jam- how about donations on the door to be donated to the Chelt BMX Jam cause? avoids licensing issues and will raise cash for the Chelt Jam? also, take a percentage of the bbq profits and donate them to the Chelt Jam .

we have a sick bbq, sick promo, case bmx wants to cover it. scrap st johns idea.

furthermore, is anyone brave enough to actually get behind this Flow Jam, i really wanna make it work and mutually benefit everyone. however,i wanna have the backing of people who ride the park.

this is not an ego-centric narcissitic event, just a guy who loves to ride bmx and wants to hold an event with those he has spent the last 4years riding with.

x

so pro:

just put a picture of luke peeters on the poster- result.

Luke:

That wont work, i got so many enemies its crazy, maybe put a photo of you on it? thats if you was BIg enough to show ya name ya get me dan, you fucking Gay homo no homo. your belly buttons like a paddling pool, ya belts a shoe lace, your girl friend looks like eeyore. ya mum

I don't mean you, your a fucking legend to me. I thought it was some fag., I was bored at home and made up some abuse. Was that really you dan?

Dunno why people say things like that! I mean I'm cool with it, but state why so I get the point ennit

chris scott 28.2.2010 21:17

right then boyos,

i know i dont live in chelt any more but i think i fall into the category of chelt bmx elder.
this whole st john's jam issue is not cool, not cool at all.
the last jam was organized by about 10 people, each doin there part and keeping the rest of the scene involved and up to date, decisions like date were made as a whole not by one person,
i know Braund may think he's doing us all a favour but i have spoken to a few of the chelt originals and i know they feel the same way i do,
the last jam had no money involvement at all, no entry fee's, no food on sale, no tuk tuk coffe shop's and there was reasons for that. when you start involving money it turns into a whole different game. you need licences to sell food on council property, you would need permission from the council to allow vehicles into the park and so on...all of which the council can say no too and then that would ruin any attempt of future jams.
i am back in chelt for a week or so from the 13th of march and i think it wold be a good idea if we broke out the round table once more.
a propper group discussion on what we think is/should happen. maybe on the thursday/friday night(18th/19th).
Alex Braund if you read this could you give me a ring or an email so we can have a chat about the finer details of this.
I dont want to sond bitchy or salty but i just think this is a whole scene thing to arrange not some college project.
maybe im just getting old....

Jay:

Yehmaahn.

Let's get it sorted so it doesn't turn sour and argumenty.

Luke:

Sounds bloody good to me. everyones in the same boat. its good. i dont have a round table at mine? so whos house?

chris scott:

i will have a chat with jay tomorrow and we will sort somethin out and let u all know.

alex braund:

yo guys, its alex braund.

im sorry for not posting some stuff earlier.

basically, i wanted to organise a jam as part of my degree, the date being 24th april due to deadlines. but i wanted it to be a little bigger than last years.

I obviously want EVERYBODY involved, i am not chelt bmx...chelt bmx is everyone of course!

so far: all i have done is acquire an amazing bbq set up, mike from Case Bmx is gona come cover it too. i have a team of 4guys to do promotions too.

all i would like to do, as it is an essential part of my degree is do all the promotions and internet stuff.

whats actually gona happen in the park grounds i have no idea: artists, photographers, video, a comp set-up? generators, PA,music, commentators, schedule,

i would love us all to get to this 'round table' and beat out some sweet ideas.

cheers, braundy

Chris (posh):

I'm planning on being back for the Thursday/Friday as well. Let's parlay.

Alex Braund:

the Round Table!

my house? its right near the park too!

my number is 075957-15473

Jay:

Let's set the date and venue for the round table and go from there.

Two things I want to say at this point...

We had decided in doing it in June/July as a group.

Bigger isn't better in this case.

gc aka the warden:

i recon you should change the format of the next jam ,as it was a little stale some great riding dont get me wrong , but it seemed to follow the jams of yester year. you need to build some shit roach some wood be creative put your own mark on the park as the old shcool have ? look at the backyard jams in hastings for ideas on how ajam grows it should be fun hard work ,not forgetting mantra tattoo jam ,you got a skate park off the back of that was that fun and how long did that buzz last for best ramps we ever had ....fact

L 27.2.2010 00:03

Alex Braund sent this to MNetters about a chelt jam, ? somthing we dont know?

bit odd as i mean normally to do with everyone in cheltbmx?

'the event will be held in aid of st johns ambulance who are happy to assit on my proposed date of Saturday 24th April.
i have also acquired a generator for the PA, confirmed an amazing catered bbq setup (i will be making the sausages & burgers with my boss by hand) complete with a tuk tuk that will provide hot and cold beverages!'

Jay:

Eh?

Anyone else know anything about this?!

Pete:

No idea?! I know he asked Benny about the generator we had for the last jam. Bit wierd that he hasn't told anyone yet?

Mikey Dizzle:

Think hes just been getting all the logistics done, and whatnot so it'll be a savage one.
He's mentioned it a lil bit, like he talked to me about posters etc.
Should be an awesome day so. lets see it dawg!!

Jay:

Eeeh?

What happened to discussion?

Dates, setup, plans etc?

Seems like it's all already decided!?

LP:

JAY thats exactly my point im getting across, im sure we all decide together normlly etc. or atleast legit cheltbmxers haha woops

Jay:

Feels bit weird talking negatively about it but I agree...

Discussion started a little while ago, we need to figure out dates and arrangements and whatnot together and get it all firmed up before we decide for certain when it's happening.

Posh Chris and I have been chatting a bit about it and we got some plans already.

Reckon we need a round table...

Jay:

Right then.

As an 'elder' I say we all agree the following details between us before word starts to spread:

date

pa supply

generator supply

music supply

announcer/riddim selector

contests

pre party

after party

sponsorship

promotion

It's not just as easy as arranging things with St Johns and caterers as then the council need to be informed and they have to give permission - this relates to insurance and policing and capacity.

I assume there are guidelines around supply catering, as i'm guessing that needs some sort of license, as well as access to the park.

Also deciding who benefits from any monies raised needs to be a group decision, as does how the money is raised - entry fees charged?! Not sure about that...

Whilst all attempts at arranging are positive, it's so important that everyone gets involved and agrees on stuff - this is why last years jam was so good.

Just my two pence worth - if everyone else decides not to agree that's completely cool,I'll bow out, just thought it may be worth getting the group ball rolling...

Pete:

I totally agree jigga, I spoke to Braund on facebook. He says that it's not definate, and he's spoken to Luke and a few others about it a few months ago?! I'll tell him to put details up on here! I know he didn't mean to cause arguements or piss people off, think he just forgot to tell people!

Jay:

Cool man, I didn't want my post to be an argument starter an hopefully it won't be, just want the people that want to be involved to be involved, that's all.

Like I said, if everyone would rather I kept quiet that's no bother either!

Luke:

JAY is cheltbmx why would we want you to be silent. you brin the fun and games no homo
